Свилен Блажев е български художник, роден през 1953 г. в Кюстендил. Завършва специалност „Стенопис“ във ВИИИ „Николай Павлович“ (днес НХА) при проф. Димо Заимов през 1980 г. и от 1981 г. е член на Съюза на българските художници.
Още в средата на 80-те години се включва активно в алтернативното арт движение, като е сред участниците в първата изложба на авангардната група „Градът“. Блажев има над 25 самостоятелни изложби в България и чужбина, а негови творби са част от престижни колекции като тези на Националната художествена галерия, СГХГ, Ватиканския музей за модерно изкуство, музей „Пушкин“, колекция „Лудвиг“, както и частни и институционални колекции в Европа и Азия.
През 1999 г. става най-младият жив художник, поканен със самостоятелна изложба в НХГ, а през 2009 г. представя и ретроспектива там. Лауреат е на множество отличия, сред които Гран При на Международното триенале на реалистичната живопис (1987), Националната награда за живопис „Владимир Димитров – Майстора“ (2013) и орден „Св. св. Кирил и Методий“ – първа степен за принос към българската култура.
Svilen Blazhev (b. 1953, Kyustendil) is a Bulgarian artist whose career spans several decades. He graduated in Mural Painting from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia (formerly the “Nikolay Pavlovich” Higher Institute of Fine Arts) in 1980, where he studied under Professor Dimo Zaimov. In 1981, he became a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
By the mid-1980s, Blazhev was actively involved in the alternative art scene and was one of the participants in the first exhibition of the avant-garde group ”The City.” Over the years, he has held more than 25 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and internationally. His works are included in prestigious collections such as those of the National Gallery, the Sofia City Art Gallery, the Vatican Museum of Modern Art, the Pushkin Museum, the Ludwig Collection, as well as various institutional and private collections across Europe and Asia.
In 1999, Blazhev became the youngest living artist to be invited for a solo exhibition at the National Gallery, where he also held a retrospective in 2009. He is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Grand Prix at the International Triennial of Realistic Painting (1987), the” Vladimir Dimitrov – The Master” National Painting Award (2013), and the Order of St. Cyril and St. Methodius – First Class for his contributions to Bulgarian culture.
